OH MY CUTENESS!!!! Baby J is already 3 months old! I call this collage “The many faces to warming up to my 3 month session” The last time this cute little guy was in the studio, he was half his current weight, much more wrinkly and sleepy, and just a handful of days old! What a difference 3 months makes; lots of smiles, and working those strong little neck muscles! You did GREAT, baby J! Can’t wait to see you for your 6 month session xoxo
What a precious little baby boy! I adore this family, and I’m so honored that I had the opportunity to photograph both of their beautiful sons’ newborn portraits! Baby Johnathan packed the same blue blankie and hat that his big brother packed at his newborn session a few years ago, originally worn by their daddy! It’s crazy how much baby Johnathan has changed even since we took these pictures. I’m so happy their parents got to capture this precious time, and I look forward to many more moments with this family!
I had the privilege of photographing this beautiful family for a very special, meaningful event. My client and her siblings all planned to photograph their immediate families as part of a gift to their mom for her 80th Birthday celebration, which was just held over labor day weekend in Colorado. I was soooo excited for my clients (and thrilled that they chose me), because I LOVE this idea, and cannot think of a better gift! We had a small window of opportunity to make this happen, because with busy families, and grown children out of town/state, scheduling can be a challenge, as we all know. We set our session date at beautiful Belmont/Gari Melcher’s Studio, but something came up last minute and one of their kids and grandson was unable to make it. Some of the other family members were visiting from out of town, so we still did the session. I know how excited my clients were when we initially scheduled the date that ALL three of their children and their families were able to make it. At this point, I was invested in the outcome, and excited for the gift, so with a little photoshop magic, we booked a later mini session at the same location, so everyone was together in the portraits! Even the mini session was a bit of a schedule challenge, and the deadline for the upcoming party was creeping up. We still needed time for the album and canvas portraits to arrive. I had a few things come up in my schedule as well, which changed my travel plans, so I packed up the desktop computer and took it with me so I could finalize the order in time for the event. This was definitely a collaborative effort, but we were both very happy it all worked out. Everything was finalized one week prior to my clients’ trip to Colorado. It wasn’t until a few days after the portrait order was picked up that I learned just how special this portrait was to my clients.
Rather than try to summarize, I will quote the very words that filled my eyes and gave me chills: “It will be something we cherish always! We weren’t sure our family would ever be complete again earlier in the year. (son’s name) had an accident and was in critical condition at UVA for 10 days. When you were able to add them both into the picture, I cried tears of joy!! Our family picture is complete!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!” This never came up during the scheduling process, but yet we were determined to make this happen. WOW! I wish I could explain just how much this story impacts me, and how grateful I am for the people who invite me to be part of something so special. The funny thing is, when I learned that the other families were taking pictures on the Florida beaches and Colorado mountains, I started that comparison game in my head, but knowing what I know about this family, the background/location suddenly didn’t matter one bit. I just checked in with my client to see how the 80th party went over the holiday weekend, she said “It was a great trip! Our parents were so happy and loved the photo!! Mom cried!! Thank you again for your beautiful work!!!” Have I mentioned that I have the best clients ever?!!!! Thank you SO much for choosing me to photograph your loved ones, I truly feel blessed. xoxoxo
I knew I liked this family when I was first commissioned to photograph their daughter’s High School senior portraits, and the senior rocked her session regardless of the fact that we were nearly carried away from clouds of bugs, and mom was a rockstar assistant who shared a love for snapchat!!! Yes kids, moms rock snapchat too! A handful of months later, I was able to photograph the entire family. FIVE kids, and there was no complaining or conflict, just a super fun day capturing just how much this family loves each other. When I delivered the portrait order to their home, all of them seemed so excited to see their beautiful 16×24 canvas framed wall print, and all the other prints, I thought that was so cool that everyone was so excited! THIS is why I am a full service portrait photographer! Thank you for taking the time to read this blog, and please let me know if I can help with your family portrait needs. If you would like to see more family portrait photos, feel free to view my gallery.
With all the choices out there, I am always honored when clients choose me to photograph their loved ones. Whether it is High School Senior Portraits, Family Portraits, precious babies and children, business headshots/corporate, or anything in between! I especially love when my clients come back! I had the opportunity to photograph Amaya’s sister a few years ago. It’s always fun working within families to see the similarities and differences. Amaya wanted a different backdrop for her senior portraits, and chose the lovely downtown Fredericksburg, VA. While Amaya is just as sweet as her sister, her personality is a little more serious, so she loved so many of her “serious expression” shots! I love to photograph different expressions because they bring the portraits to life for their loved ones. Way back in the day of Sears portraits, I remember buying a pose of my daughter with the most serious/mad face she had, and it makes me laugh every time I see it. That expression is one of her signature looks, but of course she has some precious smiley signature expressions too! Some people just ROCK the serious expressions, and then others (like me!) look a little mad! Amaya just recently picked up her High School Senior portrait order, including custom press printed announcements, a 16 x 20 canvas wall portrait, a leather album, and lots of gift prints for loved ones. I use quality professional labs and offer a wide array of prints, canvases, albums, products, etc. to showcase my clients artwork. I also offer framing for a finishing touch on those stunning wall portraits. It’s always like Christmas when I get deliveries, because my labs are such high quality, and I know that my clients are going to love and enjoy their artwork. Thank you for taking the time to read Amaya’s blog post! I look forward to an opportunity to work with you and your loved ones. The photo ops in downtown Fredericksburg are unlimited. I took a look at Katie’s bright yellow converse, drop up and down a few streets, and BAM…there was the perfect door! I could photograph Katie all day long, but honestly, we got so many amazing shots on this hot, humid day in such a short period of time. We also wrapped Katie’s session up with a bonus sunset pose! Congratulation to Katie, and all Class of 2017 High School Seniors! We lift you up in prayer for a safe, happy, healthy, successful journey. We are now accepting Class of 2018 Senior Reps. Please call or email for a link to a Senior Rep guide and application.
This is the adorable, smart, funny High School Senior, Julia! As with all of my clients, I touched base with Julia prior to her session to chat about wardrobe. Julia did a great job with solids, textures, and color harmony. The only reservation I had with Julia’s outfit choices was that it was a 40 degree winter day in December! I have no problem photographing in the elements with warm layers! I had Julia pack some layers, and I even packed a few things that I thought she may be interested in. This girl is hardcore because she said she is not a fan of cold weather, or anything (including warm clothes) associated with it, so she decided to forego the sweaters, cardigans, jackets, scarves and coats! So this busy girl, who could only fit in this timeframe, decided to tough it out and rock her 40 degree session for over an hour. If I were to guess, determined and tough cookie may be among the many qualities Julia possesses! She obviously knew what she was doing because that sleeveless (brrrrrrrrr) purple top paired beautifully with the gorgeous stonewall at Gari Melcher’s Belmont Studio in downtown Fredericksburg, VA. We wish Julia and all of the Class of 2017 graduates a blessed, safe, successful journey. We are now accepting Senior Reps for Class of 2018.
Spencer was such a joy to photograph! As with all our seniors, we communicate and coordinate outfit ideas in advance to better plan our location backgrounds. Here are some tips I share with my clients: Choose at least some solids, as we want the focus to be on the face, and busy patterns can be a distraction. That is not to say that I don’t want any fun, colorful, bold pieces, because I definitely want to capture my subject’s personality, so a variety is key. Texture photographs very well, and as you can see, Spencer incorporated texture in her solid colored shirts, as well as the cardigan. Cardigan’s are a great ad-on to give a slightly different look, or even a different season appearance. Denim and leather photograph nicely, and again are great pieces to use as ad-ons. I love how Spencer chose a simple, elegant pearl necklace with her green shirt and cardigan, but then added a bold, colorful, chunky teal necklace to give her black and white striped dress a pop of color and sass! We also used the super cute, chunky teal necklace with her solid coral colored shirt, which just so happened to match our beautiful backdrop at the stunning Gari Melcher’s home, also known as Belmont in the beautiful downtown area of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Attention to detail will go a long way for a successful outcome. Hair, make-up, nails, shoes, dressing in layers (camisoles are key!), proper rest, hydration, tan-lines, all important details. I do photograph a variety of poses, so having a neutral, non-chipped polish is important for those close-ups, and having shoes (and hopefully boots!) that pair well with all outfits, are key wardrobe factors. Speaking of boots, did you see how awesome Spencer’s American Flag Western boots are? I just so happen to have a similar pair! This also adds variety to the look and feel of the session. Spencer paired a solid colored dress with a bit of texture, added a cute denim jacket, and achieved a total different look. I also encourage my seniors to pack their Cap & Gown if possible, for some fun, relaxed pictures in addition to the formal graduation picture. Thank you for taking the time to read Spencer’s blog post, I hope you found my wardrobe tips to be informative! I am now accepting applications for Class of 2018 High School Senior Reps in the Northern Virginia area, including Stafford, Fredericksburg, Woodbridge, Dumfries, and beyond!
It’s always a bonus when we get a high school senior guy for senior portraits. Normally it goes something like “I’m doing this for my mom”! By the end of the sessions, the guys always admit to me that they had fun! Nakia came into the studio for Lacrosse pictures for the North Stafford Lacrosse banner that I sponsored. We got some cool lacrosse pics, and squeezed in some other fun shots, including the ring light. Nakia was super excited to be in the studio, and was lots of fun to work with. When he and his mom came in for their ordering appointment, they shared with me that the goofy picture with one eye closed was one of their favorites! I have to say, it makes me smile too! I love capturing unique expressions, and I like to make sure they are included in the gallery. We wish Nakia and all the Class of 2017 graduates a blessed, safe, successful adventure! We are currently accepting Class of 2018 Senior Reps, call now!
You may recognize this gorgeous gal in future publications, because Devon has signed with a model agency! No surprise, right…she is GORGEOUS, and has that model look! I just so happened to be upgrading some of my gallery photos while working on Devon’s portraits. If you have an opportunity to come in for a consult or ordering session, you will see a life size portrait of Devon! It was adorable seeing how excited she was when she saw the 30 x 50 canvas gallery wrap of herself! In addition to some stunning outdoor photos we took, Devon came into the studio where we took tons of natural look poses. No make-up, no hair-styled, no problem! I will share those pics in an upcoming post, as well as some gallery pics in an upcoming blog…stay tuned! Book your Class of 2018 Senior Portraits now! I am accepting Class of 2018 Senior Reps as well. If you are interested in having two sessions for the price of one, plus lots of other rewards/incentives, call now! Now is also a great time to book Family Portraits, especially before your kiddo(s) head off to college this summer! Thank you for visiting 🙂
